Himalayan Rhubarb is a variety that grows in the Himalayas and Nepal. The plant has been cultivated for generations in Tibet, China and is the traditional Ayurvedic medicine of India for its medicinal properties. Each part of the plant gives colour but the strongest pigment is held within the roots, which is what our dye is made from. Himalayan Rhubarb is a zesty pigment and will give you so much colour and variation when you experiment with additives and ph levels.

It is possible to create a wide range of golden tones in varying hues with the roots of the plant depending on water ph and the percentage of dye used from 10 - 100% WOF.

Shelf life of 2yrs and should be stored at 10-30degrees C.

Naturally dyed fabric is pre-treated with a mordant which creates the capacity for dye particles to adhere to the fibres. Once khadi has been mordanted it can be redyed several times throughout its life.
Throughout the creation of your piece we have given the utmost care and attention to every stage of its production to ensure you are receiving a beautiful, quality product. If you are new to natural fibre you will be amazed! It breathes unlike synthetic fibres, so you will find washing doesn’t need to be done after each wear.
Like all colour pigment, natural or synthetic, it can fade.

Here are some tips on how to reduce this happening:

•Launder with a neutral PH detergent, or as close to neutral as possible

•Rinse clothing thoroughly after washing to remove any excess detergent

•Never hang item to dry in direct sunlight, dry in shade

•Clothing really doesn’t need washing after each wear. After wearing if given a good shake and hung up it will be fine for quite a few wears. Often hanging out on a hanger in the shade can be enough to freshen your garment.

•Definitely no bleach, wool wash or stain remover please!

•It is advisable to wash separately for the first couple of washes just in case there is a colour run off. When we wash items we wash until a clear water run off occurs but occasionally residual colour can run in first washes.

•Avoid soaking in water for long period of time You will also notice that your khadi gets better with each wear, it softens and gets more and more comfortable.

Naturally dyed fabrics colour can soften eventually, enjoy its life and know it can be redyed very easily.

Himalayan Rhubarb is a zesty dye compound and will give you so much colour and variation when you experiment with additives and ph level.

It is possible to create a wide range of golden tones in varying hues with the roots of the plant depending on water ph and the percentage of dye used, from 10 - 100% WOF.

The raw dye is to be simmered for an hour then strained and add to dye bath, keep strained matter to dry for future paler shade dye baths or even for bundle dyeing.

Iron used either pre or post dyeing will provide a wonderful range from the softest of olives to the deepest.

Extract will give good shades from 5 - 10% WOF.

Mordanting

Protein fibres use alum mordant at 15% WOF

Cellulose fibres pre mordant with tannin at 8% WOF then mordant with alum acetate for best results at 8% WOF. If not available 15% of alum WOF.

Dyeing

Raw form use 10 - 50% WOF for medium shades. Dissolve dye in warm water before adding to dye bath. Slowly bring to boil and simmer for 1 hour.

Extract use 5 - 10% WOF (more for stronger colours). Dissolve dye in warm water before adding to dye bath, slowly bring to boil and simmer for 1 hour.

Awesome Himalayan Rhubarb Powder

I have used Himalayan rhubarb powder from other suppliers but found Fabric of Humanity’s product works the best in my cold processed, creating such a beautiful ruby-pink colour. Just what I was after.

Himalayan rhubarb cold process soap

I ordered through Fabric of Humanity I like what I read about them and the product is 100% natural. I hoped for a red colour in the soap and have not been disappointed, it produced the most amazing red, beyond my dreams. I used the powder infused in olive oil for 6 weeks. I posted to the group I belong too and have had such positive feedback on the colour. Even referred one to the company. In regard to ordering and delivery absolutely no complaints, easy process and prompt delivery. Will definitely order other products when time arrives
