Alum acetate is a good alternative mordant to use on cellulose fibres compared to Alum. It creates a stronger bond with the fibre thus creating richer more saturated colours on cellulose fibres.

 

Use Alum acetate after your tannin bath. Not recommended for protein fibres.

 

5 - 8% WOF.

 

Alum acetate bath may be kept and re used several times.

 

When weighing and adding to dye bath use well ventilated area and face mask. Alum acetate is a fine powder that can float around when disturbed.

Too much alum?

I followed a recipe that used alum to 10% of dry wool weight , when I finished heating the wool in the alum dilution, thecwool was sticky, it had already been scoured, can you give me any suggestions?what percentage would you recommend?
